A new update to External Images has been released.

The primary focus of this release was to fix some issues that were occurring on some themes causing images to not display, or to display at weird sizes.

Source of image size changed

Instead of using the Woocommerce ‘ratio-based’ image sizes, and code-based widths, this update uses your Settings->Media->Thumbnails settings.

In there you can set width, height and whether the image should be cropped.

Upcoming fixes and features

Next in the queue for this plugin are the following improvements:

  • If you use the add-to-cart functionality, currently the image will not display in the cart for the product. That will be fixed next.
  • Variant images

If you see any other bugs or have other ideas for things to add, let me know.

  1. Good afternoon:

I am trying to reach you in regarding your plugin External Images. I would like to know if is compatible with WPResidence and WPAllImport.
Buying your plugin where may I find installation information?

    Thank you, Rafael.

    • It’s definitely compatible with WP All Import – instead of importing images to the IMAGE area of WP All Import, you just import those URL(s) to a new meta field called external_image_url. This field can contain multiple images separated by pipe | symbol.

I’m uncertain re: WP Residence, but it *should* be compatible and if not I’ll add a fix to make it so. Given this uncertainty, you should test on a clone of your site first. We have been constantly making improvements to make it automatically compatible with as many themes as possible but in some cases some themes will try to read the thumbnail URL directly from the database. A future upgrade is going to be coded to detect this attempt to read the thumbnail URL from the database and override it by pulling the relevant URL from the external_image_url field, but in any case I can code specific alterations for specific themes fairly quickly.
