Export and Import Your Settings
If you run several sites, configuring Scalability Pro from scratch on each one is a chore. You’ve already worked out the settings you want once. Doing the same clicking again on every other site is time you don’t need to spend, and it’s easy to miss something and end up with sites that aren’t configured the same way.
The solution: the Advanced tab
The Advanced tab lets you export your Scalability Pro settings to a file, then import that file on another site. Configure one site the way you want it, export, and bring those same settings into the next site. It’s the quick way to get a consistent setup across a group of sites. The Settings and Options Reference lists exactly which options travel in that file.
Get one site exactly right, export it, and treat that file as your template for the rest. It is far easier to perfect a single configuration and copy it than to click through the same options on every site and hope you matched them.
One thing to remember: indexes are per site
Database indexes are created per site, against that site’s own database. They’re not part of the settings export, and they can’t be, because each site’s database is its own. So after you import your settings on a new site, you still need to go to the Indexes tab on that site and create the indexes there.
Think of it as two steps. The settings export and import gets your configuration across. The Indexes tab, run on each site, does the database work that has to happen locally.
- Configure and export from your template site (Advanced tab)
- Import that file on each other site (Advanced tab)
- On every site, build the indexes (Indexes tab, Select All, Update Indexes)
Summary
Use the Advanced tab to export your Scalability Pro settings and import them on another site, so you don’t have to reconfigure each one by hand. Just remember that indexes are created per site, so after importing settings you still create the indexes from the Indexes tab on each individual site.
