Price Comparison Pro

Price Comparison Pro is no longer sold. It scraped prices from any website and built live price comparison tables inside WooCommerce. We are considering bringing it back as a cross-platform product rather than a WordPress-only plugin. If that interests you, leave your email below.

What Price Comparison Pro was

Price Comparison Pro turned a WooCommerce store into a price comparison site. You gave it a product and a set of source URLs, and it scraped the current price from each of those pages and built a live comparison table on your product page, sorted cheapest first.

It scraped any site, not a fixed list of merchants. You pointed it at a page, told it where the price sat using a CSS selector, xPath or a regular expression, and it read the price from there. Sites that rendered prices in JavaScript were handled through a headless browser. It read schema.org JSON straight out of the raw HTML where sites published it, picked up regular and sale prices separately, and worked from the affiliate URLs already stored on your WooCommerce external products.

Why we stopped selling it

Scraping is a maintenance treadmill. Every site it scraped could change its markup at any time, and when one did, that merchant’s prices silently stopped updating until somebody noticed and rewrote the selector. Multiply that across every customer, every merchant and every redesign, and the support load grew faster than the revenue did. Anti-bot measures got considerably better over the same period. It was a good product that cost more to keep running than it earned.

What it could be

The interesting part was never the WordPress plugin. It was the scraping and comparison engine underneath, and there is no good reason for that to be tied to WooCommerce.

If we bring it back, it would be cross-platform: a hosted service with an API, usable from WooCommerce, Shopify, a static site, or anything else that can make an HTTP request. That means one place to maintain the selectors, so a merchant redesign gets fixed once for everyone instead of by every customer separately. That model fixes the actual problem that killed the plugin.

Price Comparison Pro is not currently sold. It scraped live prices from any website and built comparison tables inside WooCommerce. Keeping every scraper working across every merchant redesign cost more than the plugin earned, so we retired it.

We are considering rebuilding it properly: a cross-platform service with an API rather than a WordPress-only plugin, so the selectors are maintained centrally and a merchant redesign gets fixed once for everyone.

If we reach 100 registrations, we will build it. Leave your email and you will hear first, and you will have a say in which platforms and merchants we support at launch.
