Controlling Delayed Image Import with MCP
Connect Delayed Image Import to Codex or Claude Code and you can ask it to diagnose a stalled image backlog, estimate completion time, and tune the queue without opening several status and settings screens.
Requires Delayed Image Import 2.28.3 or newer and WordPress 6.9 or newer.
Connect once for all Super Speedy plugins
MCP setup is shared across the Super Speedy range. You do not need a separate connection for Delayed Image Import.
- Install any Super Speedy plugin, open Super Speedy, and enter your licence.
- Open Super Speedy > MCP setup.
- Generate the connection commands and copy the command for Codex or Claude Code.
- Paste it into your terminal, then restart the AI assistant.
The setup page creates a revocable WordPress Application Password for the current administrator. The same connection exposes the documented tools from every active Super Speedy plugin.
You can say "why have image downloads stopped?" rather than naming a tool. The assistant should discover the available abilities and inspect the status before changing settings.
Useful requests
- "Why has my delayed image queue stopped progressing?"
- "How many images remain and when should the queue finish?"
- "Speed up image hydration without overwhelming the supplier CDN."
- "Show me the current throughput and the safest settings change to improve it."
What the assistant should do
The assistant should read the queue status and configuration first. It can compare pending, failed and loaded counts, recent throughput, ETA, worker heartbeat and cron state. If a configuration change is appropriate, it should explain the trade-off, request confirmation where required, update only the named settings, then re-read the status to verify that processing resumes.
The assistant does not download images itself. The normal Delayed Image Import queue remains responsible for the work.
MCP abilities
| Ability | Purpose |
|---|---|
get-status | Read queue counts, progress, throughput, ETA, heartbeat and cron state. |
get-config | Read every supported setting, its default, meaning and confirmation status. |
update-config | Update recognised settings and immediately apply cron-scheduling changes. |
These abilities use the delayed-image-import namespace and are discovered through the shared Super Speedy connection.
Safety
The abilities require dii_manage, which administrators receive automatically. Changes that can overload a supplier or interrupt processing require explicit confirmation, including cron batch size, same-domain throttling, pausing cron and debug modes. Replacing the hotlink blocklist is also confirmation-gated, so the assistant should read the existing list and preserve entries you still need.
When MCP does not cover the task
Browser control is useful when you want the assistant to review a visual status screen or reproduce a front-end image problem. Restricted SSH is appropriate for server logs, cron configuration or WP-CLI checks, but is not needed for ordinary queue monitoring.
Troubleshooting the connection
- If the tools are missing, activate or update Delayed Image Import and restart the AI assistant.
- If connection generation is unavailable, use HTTPS and make sure WordPress Application Passwords are enabled.
- If the heartbeat is stale after a setting change, ask the assistant to distinguish a paused queue from a failed WordPress cron before increasing throughput settings.
