FAQ

Does the import run my hooks, or update search and term counts?

Published · Last updated

The bulk import engine writes directly to the database, so it does not run every plugin’s per-product save hooks. The follow-up work a shop needs is chosen in the import’s After Import panel, saved with the import, and run at the end of every run, scheduled runs included.

A new import starts with these choices:

  • Recount category, tag and attribute counts: a full recount using WordPress and WooCommerce.
  • WooCommerce Attribute Lookup table: handed to WooCommerce to rebuild in the background.
  • WooCommerce Product Lookup tables: rebuilt during the import with bulk SQL, for the items this import touched.
  • Clear WooCommerce caches and transients: on.

So a finished import normally leaves nothing to run. An import created before these defaults keeps the choices it was saved with, which can be Off; open its After Import panel to check. When Super Speedy Search or Super Speedy Filters is installed, the panel also offers a rebuild of its index. Any task that did not run is offered on the completion screen, with a button and the equivalent command.

If an integration depends on WordPress save hooks, review the Import completion hooks guide and its requirements. Verify your search results, filters and counts after the import instead of assuming that every third-party index refreshes automatically. For a plugin that only rebuilds its data on save, wp ssi <id> save-posts saves each of the import’s items through WordPress and WooCommerce, which is slow on a large catalogue.
